First, we hired a local home care service to come into mom’s house a couple of times per day. It had pretty good reviews, but managing our home care service amounted to a part-time job. We were continually having to train new caregivers, and mom didn’t like the everchanging roster. Next, we moved mom into the best assisted living facility we could find in Thurston County. She hated it. Finally, we bought a bigger house, moved mom in with us, and hired JRS Home Care. It was the best decision for our mom that we ever made. Janet took charge of providing mom with 24-hour care, and she did it beautifully. We finally had a partner who could do the caregiving that we couldn’t—or didn’t have time to—do, and that freed us to spend real time with mom. Janet and her staff became part of our family. Like family, they appreciated what was best about mom and looked past what wasn’t. We all worked together, laughed together and cried together. And as mom neared the end of her life, Janet and her staff helped us to understand what was happening and get through it.
